19 Reasons it's great to be a parent

Being a Parent
Share

Here are our favourite things about being a parent...

Being a parent may be tiring and challenging from time to time but there are so many rewards that make it the most amazing job.

Here are just a few of them...

  1. Seeing your baby smile for the first time.
  2. Feeling their tiny fingers wrap around yours.
  3. You get to play peek-a-boo and other games with someone who never finds you boring.
  4. Everywhere you go, people want to smile at your baby and talk to you about them. An amazing chance to be a super proud mummy or daddy!
  5. You can play with the toys you loved as a child all over again – and buy the ones you always wanted as a child but never had.
  6. As they grow you can have loads of fun playing in the mud, the waves, the leaves and the snow without feeling at all self conscious.
  7. You get to pretend to be a professional photographer, making memories of your gorgeous baby all the time.
  8. Even doing the chores is fun - you look at those tiny shoes, wellies, gloves and socks and think they’re just the most adorable things in the whole world.
  9. You can watch kids’ TV and endless cartoons without feeling you should be watching a serious current affairs programme instead.
  10. You can lose your own identity and not be known by your profession or where you come from - you’re “Pooja’s Mum” or “Ayaan’s Dad.”
  11. You can look at all the things in the world through your baby’s fresh, new eyes and see beauty all around you.
  12. You discover you have skills you never knew you had, such as the ability to be able to eat with one hand, talk on the phone to your friend and feed your baby all at the same time.
  13. You realise that work is not the most important thing in your life anymore.
  14. You learn to make new friends quickly and easily when you have children the same age and are never short of a play date.
  15. You become the cleverest person on the planet, answering all their ‘why?’ questions. Until they come up with something you can’t answer, of course!
  16. You get to be the person your child comes to when they are upset, tired or sick – and have the amazing feeling of being able to calm and soothe them, all by yourself.
  17. You become a complete baby bore, going on to friends, relations and even the postman, about how amazing your child is and what new milestones they have reached that day.
  18. You learn more about yourself and your values as you start to pass them onto your child.
  19. You enjoy seeing your own parents’ joy at having a new grandchild and encourage them to enjoy being with your child - without the sleepless nights and illnesses they endured when you were a baby.

...But most of all, you can enjoy the warm feeling you get when your child tells you they love you.
